A fast-paced international thriller by top-selling Melbourne author of fiction and non-fiction, Roland Perry. This is a sequel to Perry’s first book titled The Honourable Assassin (2015) in a new series of thrillers that incorporate actual events, criminal organisations and key figures in the underworld of Asia as they play out globally, involving international law enforcement and intelligence operations.
The Honourable Assassin finishes with the main protagonist, Victor Cavalier, learning from former Thai supercop and boxer, Jacinta Cin Lai, that his daughter may be alive although a mysterious video sent to him which seemed to show that she had been decapitated by Mexican drug warlord, Mendez. Now, in The Assassin on the Bangkok Express, he learns that the video may have been doctored to ensure that Cavalier accepted the assassination assignment to eliminate Mendez.
However, Cavalier has now heard that his daughter is alive but is a sex slave of the Mexican drug gang operating in the Golden Triangle. Through his contacts, he manages to uncover the fact that the Mexicans plan to leave Thailand in the next few days, along with their accumulated fortunes from drugs and sex slave trafficking. Their imminent departure is prompted by intel from their insider contacts that the Americans, led by the CIA and involving Navy Seals, may be closing in on them. The Mexicans secretly arrange to take over two carriages on the Bangkok Express which will take them and their gold booty out
of the country.
Cavalier fears that his daughter will be taken out of the country on that train along with the booty and makes plans to rescue her with whatever it takes. Meanwhile, Jacinta’s boss, General Azelaporn, has been fired for corruption by the recently installed Military Junta that has taken control of government in Thailand and is clamping down on corrupt officials in all sectors of Thai governance.
General Azelporn promptly accepts an offer from the Mexican gang to be Chief of Security overseeing their escape from Thailand. In turn, Azelaporn hires his most able former lieutenant, Jacinta Cin Lai, to assist him on the train’s journey – inadvertently ensuring that Cavalier will now have an ‘insider’ on the train.
The Bangkok Express runs from Bangkok, west to Kanchanaburi, then on down through the south of Thailand and across the border with Malaysia through a region where a strong IS-linked Muslim terrorist faction operates. The train’s intended destination after Malaysia is Singapore. The trip will take three nights and four days. Cavalier must use a disguise to insinuate himself onto the train if there is a chance to save his daughter. This time he will need to work more closely with the mysterious, stunning and deadly Jacinta to achieve his goal.
During the night journey, a professional assassination occurs on the Express which disrupts the Mexicans’ plans and gives Cavalier the chance to see if his daughter is indeed on board. All parties’ plans, however, are about to hit the worst possible obstacle. Tipped off about the huge booty of gold and cash, the IS-linked rebels attempt to hijack the train when it passes through the Muslim stronghold in Malaysia.
